Metabo HPT’s Compact Cordless Recip Saw Lets You Work in Tight Spaces

Metabo HPT has quite a few reciprocating saws under its belt, with both corded and cordless options available. Today we’re turning our focus to the most compact in the line thus far, the Metabo HPT CR18DMAQ4 Compact Reciprocating Saw.

The Metabo HPT CR18DMAQ4 reciprocating saw uses a brushless motor to deliver up to 3000 strokes per minute with a 1 1/8-inch stroke length. It’s ideal for cutting through a variety of materials, like wood, PVC, and metal.
It features four speed modes as well as a variable speed dial to let you set your speed to the application at hand. This saw has a cut capacity of up to five inches in steel and vinyl pipes, and up to 11.75 inches in wood pieces.
For runtimes, Metabo HPT tells us you can expect to get up to 125 cuts in 2×8 material per charge using an 18V/36V MultiVolt 5.0Ah/2.5Ah battery.

This saw weighs 4.6 pounds as a bare tool, which Metabo HPT tells us is 22% lighter and 20% more compact than the previous iteration, the CR18DBL reciprocating saw.
It features an adjustable pivoting shoe to give you more control over your cutting depth. A twin bearing design also helps with durability by creating less plunger wear and tear.
Additionally, a trigger safety lock prevents the tool from accidental startup during storage or transport. When you need to change the blade, a tool-free replacement lets you quickly and easily change it out. Finally, an LED work light illuminates your work area when working in low-light conditions.
This compact tool retails for $159 as a bare tool and includes a curved wood blade. There are no kit options available at the time of writing. Metabo HPT backs your purchase with a limited lifetime warranty.
