The Elegance of Bamboo

One half of the big draw about the FlexiSpot Kana Bamboo Standing Desk is the material used in the desktop. The desks around the office all either use rubberwood or some undisclosed wood species. They all look nice and function as they ought to, so we’re not complaining.

However, the FlexiSpot Kana standing desk employs mature bamboo that they claim ensures twice the durability and elasticity of standard wood species. They construct the desktop using lateral compression technology, which retains the natural grain of every bamboo strip used. The end result is a beautiful desktop that stands out a bit from the ordinary.

However, it’s not all about aesthetics. FlexiSpot reinforces the desktop using an eco-friendly carbonized technology that coats the wood with a water-resistant 2H lacquer. This renders your Kana Bamboo Desk impervious to moisture and scratches, as well as resistant to insect infestation. This lacquer complies with E0 standards, helping you to feel better about your “carbon footprint” or whatever.

Sit or Stand

The other big draw of the Kana Bamboo Standing Desk revolves around the ability to transition between a sitting or standing position while you work.

FlexiSpot uses dual motors to drive your desktop up or down at less than 50 dB and at a rate of 1.5″ per second. Calling the drive motors “whisper quiet,” in this case, is not even really hyperbolic. It’s super quiet. The up and down speed also seems quick enough not to feel like you’re waiting on it, but not so fast that you risk launching your computer monitor into the stratosphere. The 3-stage legs lend your standing desk some stability at any height you set it.

Speaking of setting your height, FlexiSpot couldn’t have made that process any less taxing; the Kana Bamboo Standing Desk features an advanced keypad that makes the whole process simple. Not only does it show you the precise height of your desktop on a bright LED display, but you also get a variety of other helpful features. The keypad goes into “sleep mode” while stationary to save power. It gives you three programmable presets. It also provides you with alerts to remind you to sit or stand at regular intervals.

Make It Your Own

The base model of the Kana Bamboo Standing Desk starts at $449.99. However, you can tailor the desk to your own preferences with plenty of customization options available.

Starting with the actual desktop dimensions, FlexiSpot offers 48″x24″, 55″x28″, and 60″x30″ options, all of which can come in a perfect rectangle or with a curved front. Upgrading to the medium-sized desktop only adds $30 to the final total, while going all-out will tack on $140.

You can also choose your frame. The Pro 2-Stage Frame gives you between 27.2″ to 46.5″ of height adjustment, and it can support up to 220 lbs. The Pro 3-Stage extends your working range from 22.8″ to 48.4″ and can support up to 275 lbs. Upgrading to this more robust frame will tack on $40. Presently, you have the option of a black or grey table legs, with a white option soon to come.

While it looks like FlexiSpot does have a few varieties of keypad options, it also looks like you’re limited to the advanced keypad for the Kana Bamboo Standing Desk.

We went with the curved, 48″ x 24″ desktop shape, the Pro 3-Stage height, the advanced keypad, and the EC4-Grey frame color. With our configuration, the desk came to $489.99.
