The Knipex Pliers Wrench is one of my favorite and most-used hand tools. It took a while for me to save up for my first one, and I have had zero regrets since then.
In my opinion, the 7-1/4″ size (180mm) is a great place to start. I also have a 10″ Pliers Wrench, and a couple in smaller sizes.
Knipex Pliers Wrenches work via a compound leverage mechanism, and their jaws remain parallel throughout their opening.
The tool can be used to turn hex-shaped fasteners, and I also use mine for all sorts of other operations.
The jaws are smooth, but extremely grippy due to the compound leverage and high clamping pressure they can exert.
I checked a couple of models and found the prices to be lower and quite good compared to other retailers. You’ll want to price-check specific models yourself, just to be sure.
KC Tool has free shipping on $75+ orders. If you’re sure what else to buy to get you over the threshold, maybe pick up a Halder non-marring hammer or dead-blow, a Wera screwdriver set, NWS pliers, or something from Felo.
If you’re already got a couple of full-size Pliers Wrench, consider the Knipex XS. I like this one. I like all of Knipex’s mini Pliers Wrenches, but if I had to pick just one this might be it.
