DeWalt 60V Max Cordless 20-Inch Chainsaw

DeWalt Soon To Unleash Cordless 20-Inch Chainsaw Upon the Landscaping World

According to Stanley Black & Decker, DeWalt has “doubled down on their electrification technology,” particularly in the OPE sphere of the power tool market. The result of DeWalt’s concerted doubling down has produced the first 60V 20-inch chainsaw to hit the professional landscaping scene. DeWalt claims that the cordless 20-inch chainsaw delivers 20% more peak power and twice the maximum torque of a 50.2cc gas chainsaw.

DeWalt Cordless 20-Inch Chainsaw: The Big Deal

Prior to this announcement, the longest bar and chain we’ve seen on a cordless saw measured in at 18 inches. DeWalt has extended that length by two more inches for a saw they’ve targeted toward professional landscapers.

DeWalt claims that the 60V Max 20-Inch Chainsaw has the power to cut up to 17-inch white oak logs in around 15 seconds (when using the DCB615 15.0 battery). The battery bay is top-mounted, keeping the weight of the battery balanced for better maneuverability.

For your own personal edification, it might seem fair to include a couple of caveats to DeWalt’s power claims surrounding peak power and maximum torque. During testing, DeWalt used the DCB615 15Ah FlexVolt Battery, the highest capacity battery that the brand offers. They also compare it to the Stihl MS 271 Farm Boss 50.2cc gas chainsaw, which the brand recommends you use with a 16″ bar, though it can accommodate a 20″ bar and chain. Do with this information what you will.

Like you’d probably expect, it looks like the saw features a wraparound handle with a couple overmoldings to accommodate a few different grip positions. Plus, it looks like it features aggressive, metal bucking spikes to provide better leverage for easier, more controlled sawing.

Other Features

Pricing and Availability

DeWalt has just debuted the Cordless 60V Max 20-Inch Chainsaw at this year’s GIE Expo in Louisville, KY, and they tell us that it should become available beginning in Spring 2022.

They also tell us that they’ll have a couple of kit options available, as well as a bare tool option. The DCCS677Z1 kit comes with a 5.0Ah battery and retails for $499, while the DCCS677Y1 kit comes with a 4.0Ah battery and retails for $449. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like DeWalt plans to release the saw kitted with the 15Ah battery that they use to come up with the premium performance specs they’ve stated, so you might opt for the DCCS677B bare tool option–which is slated to carry a $349 pricetag–and then buy the big battery separately.

We also expect that this chainsaw will carry the same DeWalt backing as the rest of their cordless line with a 3-year warranty, 1-year free service agreement, and 90-day money back guarantee.
