EGO 56V 615 CFM Leaf Blower Review LB6150

EGO 615 CFM Blower Fills Mid-Range Power Needs

EGO has handheld blowers that cover 530 CFM to 650 CFM. Of course, CFM is only part of the equation, but we still wanted to know where the EGO 56V 615 CFM blower fits in the conversation. A lot of you have asked how this blower compares to the 650, so we’ll spend some time looking at it specifically.

Pros

  • Solid power level (17.5 N with 5.0Ah battery)
  • Best balance of performance and price in the EGO blower line
  • Cruise control dial
  • Efficient inline design

Cons

  • Runtime with kitted battery may be too short for some users

EGO 56V 615 CFM Leaf Blower Performance

Blowing Force

EGO boasts 615 CFM and 170 MPH with this blower. Like all blowers, you don’t get both max numbers at the same time. You get the best CFM with just the tube and better airspeed with the included tapered nozzle.

In both high and Turbo, it was pretty clear the EGO 56V 615 CFM blower isn’t as strong as the 650. That’s not a surprise by any stretch, though. Don’t mistake it for being weak, however. In Turbo, you can really feel the blower pushing back against you enough to make us want to stick with high speed unless we really needed the boost.

We hooked up our trusty force meter to find out exactly how much different the two blowers are.

With the kitted 2.5Ah battery, it settled at 11.3 Newtons. In Turbo, it touched 17.0 N for a moment before finding a consistent 16.5 N.

Stepping up to a 5.0Ah battery, it was the same 11.3 N in high and a higher 17.5N in Turbo.

Finally, we checked with a 7.5Ah battery for those of you with larger lawns that need more runtime. Want to guess the force in high? 11.3 N. Turbo bumped up a little more to hit 18.6 N.

No matter which battery you’re using, high gets you just into the power of handheld residential gas blowers (usually 11 – 12 N for entry-level models). Turbo gets you well into gas performance and even exceeds many handheld models from big-time brands.

Runtime

The kit comes with a 2.5Ah battery, but we tested runtime with a 5.0Ah pack to get a better direct comparison to the 650. At high speed, the EGO 56V 615 CFM blower ran for 30 minutes, 31 seconds. That’s a bit more than 3 minutes over the 650.

In Turbo, the difference wasn’t as great. The 615 made it an extra 42 seconds with 17 minutes, 16 seconds of continuous running.

If you’re using the 2.5Ah battery from the kit, just cut those numbers in half for a good estimate (~15 minutes in high, 8 minutes, 30 seconds in Turbo).

Noise Level

With the lower performance, EGO’s noise level drops as well. Moving into an open field and testing from my ear to the blower, we registered 81 dB(A) at high speed and 85 dB(A) in Turbo. That’s a few decibels lower than the 650 model. It might not sound like much, but 3 decibels lower is actually 1/2 the sound pressure level.

EGO 56V 615 CFM Leaf Blower Design Notes

From a design standpoint, the 615 and 650 CFM blowers are nearly identical. From the outside, they actually are.

Standard controls include a 2-finger trigger and a variable speed cruise control dial. We prefer the trigger when we’re quickly blowing off hard surfaces after mowing. The cruise control is particularly helpful when you want to peg a slower speed for better control or to extend your runtime.

Above the handle, you find the Turbo button, and you can activate it while using either the trigger or cruise control.

Additional Features

  • Brushless motor
  • Weather-resistant build
  • Tapered nozzle included

EGO 56V 615 CFM Leaf Blower Price

EGO packs this blower with a 2.5Ah battery and charger for $219. If you’re already on the EGO platform, it’s $139 as a bare tool. Those are significant savings over the 650’s $199/$299 price structure and well worth the power trade-off if you don’t need the highest EGO offers. Just keep in mind that the 650 comes with a 5.0Ah battery instead of a 2.5Ah.

The Bottom Line

We’ve looked at EGO’s top two handheld blowers pretty closely, but there’s also the wider perspective to consider. Whether you’re getting the blower as a bare tool or a kit, it’s tough to find a competitor that gives you better performance at the same price or less. That puts the 615 CFM blower in a pretty good position both within EGO’s 56V platform and among the other options out there.

Overall, the 615’s performance gains are enough to warrant boosting your budget from the 530 CFM model and stout enough that you might not miss the extra power of the 650. If you’re looking for the best balance of performance and cost, the EGO 56V 615 CFM blower is the one to choose.
