Cons

Greenworks Pro 60V String Trimmer Performance

One of the highlights of the Greenworks Pro 60V string trimmer is the 16-inch cutting swath. Almost all of the string trimmers that we looked at in our recent Best Battery-Powered Weedeater Roundup—Pro models and residential models alike—cut with a 15-inch diameter or less. The only exceptions were the Husqvarna 520iLX and Makita XRU18 which really target the Pro and this model targeting homeowners.

Greenworks uses 0.080″ line, which is pretty much industry standard for electric string trimmers in the homeowner sector. You can also jump up to 0.095″ line if you prefer. Just keep in mind your runtime will drop from our results.

Speaking of runtime, the Greenworks Pro 60V string trimmer delivered some of the better performance we had seen in the recent roundup. Under no-load, and running at High speed, the brushless motor hummed along for 34.3 minutes at 5974 RPM. This impressed us considering the battery that comes with this trimmer is the smaller 2.5Ah size.

Load N’ Go Trimmer Head

One of the highlights of the Greenworks Pro string trimmer has to do with the Load N’ Go trimmer head. To reload, start by lining up the indicator arrows on the head.

Once you line up the arrows on the head, the inserts of the outer casings match up with the inserts on the inner spool. Then, run the length of your line to the center and turn the bottom section to ratchet it in. From there, it’s your typical bump feed trimmer head.

Speed Control

Greenworks throws a couple of speed settings to go along with its variable speed trigger. You toggle them with a handy thumb switch. I found this helpful. In the Low setting, I could manage the vast majority of grass and weeds without burning through my battery so fast. When I needed some extra “oomph” to get through some of the thicker growth and edging, switching the trimmer into High gear proved helpful.

Weight and Balance

The Greenworks Pro string trimmer weighs in at a very reasonable 10.69 lbs., which includes the battery. Compared to other models we’ve tested, this in the middle for most battery-powered trimmers. Because of a nice battery pack layout and ergonomics, this trimmer still feels very manageable and agile in both trimming and edging positions.

Handle adjustment

The balance of the tool can explain some of this maneuverability. The battery weight offsets the weight of the head nicely, and any imbalance can be adjusted by moving the handle up and down the shaft. You won’t need tools here. Instead, the handle can be tightened or loosened with a thumb dial. Every weed wacker handle should adjust this easily!

One minor sticking point: Tom Gaige, who conducts a good amount of our in-house testing, noted that the top-loaded battery position rubbed uncomfortably against his arm. Personally, I didn’t really have this issue, but it might be worth noting. If you do run into this issue, a long sleeve t-shirt will likely remedy the problem.

Greenworks Pro 60V String Trimmer Price and Warranty

The Greenworks Pro 60V string trimmer comes with a 4-year warranty on both the trimmer and the battery. You can pick up the kit—including a 2.5Ah battery and charger—for just $186.99 at The Home Depot. It’s also available as a bare tool for $149.99.

The Bottom Line

Greenworks really did a nice job designing their Pro 60V string trimmer. It has excellent cutting performance to go with runtime that easily exceeds half an hour. Combined with excellent and a solid value, it’s a great addition to your growing Greenworks 60V lawn care equipment arsenal or as an entry into battery power as you move away from gas.
